About YYY Foundation

YYY Foundation was started by Sera & Sarah Gurung following the earthquakes in Nepal in April 2015. In the beginning, it was simply a way to channel donations from friends and family to offer immediate help to the poorest and most marginalised castes in Nepal. It has grown since then into a solid foundation that works in close partnership with local communities to enable them to become self-sufficient and avoid the aid dependency trap.

In the five years prior to the Covid pandemic, the charity focused largely on rebuilding schools destroyed by the earthquakes in rural regions and areas often overlooked by the larger agencies.  As in most countries around the world, the global pandemic had a devastating effect on Nepal, restricting movement and halting projects.  During this time, the trustees refined the focus of the charity’s work to four key areas: provision of finance for selected infrastructure projects at schools, which could add significant value but could not really be funded locally; provision of stationery and other essential materials to the various schools which the charity has helped historically; provision of Women’s Health education for schools and associated communities; and provision of computers for secondary schools. It's our aim to give schools and the communities they serve a solid base from which they can grow and become self-sufficient.

Work Area

Our work in Nepal is supervised by The Mandala Organisation a local NGO run by people we have known for many years through our work in adventure tourism and expedition leadership.

We have jointly completed forty-two schools at Siranchour in Sindupalchowk and Chumlingtar in Gorkha.  We have built a further four schools and are working towards a sustainable future for them all.  We have bought and handed over building land to another school in Ukhubari in Sindupalchowk and are now in the final planning stages of a community centre in Hagam.

Why Computer Labs

We have chosen to work with EduTech Nepal as they have a long and proven track record working if the field of delivering high quality IT facilities in Nepal.

EduTech has a similar outlook on how to deliver IT facilities with the required backup to ourselves.  Importantly they have the relevant expertise that we lack, making for an ideal collaboration.
