About OLE Nepal

Open Learning Exchange Nepal (OLE Nepal) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing equal access to quality learning resources to students throughout Nepal. Since its inception in 2007, OLE Nepal has pioneered using technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience in Nepal. Their integrated learning initiative began in 2008 and has since expanded, benefiting thousands of students with access to interactive digital books, multimedia tutorials, and educational games that foster an engaging and stimulating learning environment. The organization's programs are centered on providing learning content to children and include E-Paath, E-Pustakalaya, Hamro Ramailo Kathaharu, Robotics Programs, Balpaathmala, and learning games.

E-Paath, for instance, is an interactive and engaging program that utilizes multimedia elements such as videos, animations, and interactive quizzes. It is aligned with the Nepalese curriculum, ensuring its relevance and usefulness to students and teachers alike. In contrast, E-Pustakalaya is a one-of-a-kind digital library containing thousands of books, educational videos, audio books, reference materials, and interactive learning software. It can be installed in low-power servers and deployed in schools and community libraries that either do not have internet connectivity or have low bandwidth connections. Hamro Ramailo Kathaharu, on the other hand, is an interactive-based learning platform developed to enhance hands-on learning with stories and activities that help early-grade learners develop basic reading and comprehension skills.

OLE Nepal has also implemented Robotics Programming education in seven public schools in Lalitpur. Schools are provided with kits that students can use to design and build robots, which can be programmed to carry out various tasks using a simple child-friendly visual programming tool. Additionally, learning games are a collection of advanced games for middle school math and science designed to promote STEM learning. The project looks beyond the curriculum to explore games as a tool to learn concepts and promote critical thinking.

OLE Nepal's digital content can be used in a variety of ways to enhance the learning experience. Students can use computers to access interactive digital books and multimedia tutorials, which provide a more engaging and interactive way of learning. Teachers can also use OLE Nepal's digital resources to create lesson plans and enhance classroom teaching.

Content - E-Paath

E-Paath is a collection of digital interactive learning activities that are designed and developed at OLE Nepal and distributed freely. The E-Paath activities are based on national curriculum of Nepal. They are subject-specific and grade-specific. E-Paath is available in Nepali and English languages for grades 1-8. We have also integrated Nepali Sign Language (NSL) instruction to E-Paath lessons for grades 1-6.

E-Paath can run on any browser. It can be accessed online from OLE Nepal’s free digital library, E-can also be downloaded and used for free.

Key Features of E-Paath

    • Designed to give engaging and meaningful learning experience to the students.
    • Closely aligned with the national curriculum to help teachers and students meet the learning objectives.
    • Modular activities, each module corresponding to a subject and grade.
    • Covers core subjects in the national curriculum – Nepali, English, science and math from grade 1 to 8 in Nepali and English language.
    • We have translated the same content in Chepang language for grade 2-6.
    • All E-Paath content can be translated and used in any language.
    • Multimedia based, composed of contextualized images, audio, animations and games.
    • Each activity module has a ‘lesson’ section that help students understand the concept being covered and an ‘exercise’ section to test how well students have understood the concept. There are also small exercise activities within the lessons that help students review and reinforce the concepts that they have just learnt.
    • Each activity also has accompanying ‘Teacher’s Note’ that explains how teachers can integrate the E-Paath activities in classroom teaching.

E-Paath Development Process

A team of curriculum experts, graphic designers, software developers and translators work together to create E-Paath activities. From conceptualization to design and development, the team has paid close attention to ensure that the activities meet the learning objectives, are fun and interactive, and the graphic elements, text and audio components are contextualized to match students local environment.

E-Paath design and development is based on student-centered learning approach. The learning content is situated in real world scenarios and local context so that learning is personally meaningful to the students. We provide timely assessment so that the students can learn in practice-based approach in their own pace. Along with giving fun and engaging learning experience to the students, we also aim to promote positive attitude to learning and positive self-esteem as a learner.

Collaboration

EduTech Nepal and OLE signed an MOU in April 2023 to collaborate and supply EduTech computer labs with OLE E-Paath content and for Edutech Nepal to provide OLE with reporting and feedback.
